Turkey Sausage and Veggies Packet

Easy 4 ingredient meal on the grill

Cutting down on fat grams

There is a reason this is Turkey Sausage and Veggies Packet instead of just sausage and veggies packet. The difference in fat grams is HUGE!

If you didn’t know you can purchase pre-cooked turkey kielbasa sausage in most grocery stores, including Aldi. Typically found near hot dogs and other pre-cooked sausages.

For this recipe, I sliced up the entire sausage and divided it over 4 packets. If you are not feeding a family and need less, you could divide it over more packets and freeze half of them. Thaw them the night before you want to grill them and then grill them fresh. You can also grill all of them and freeze them grilled – mostly a preference!

For the entire kielbasa sausage, the traditional pork variety has 120+grams of fat depending on the brand. Woah! 120 grams of fat, might as well go order an onion blossom at Chili’s! (Don’t do that!)

By swapping it for turkey kielbasa, you cut the fat down to 35 grams of fat for the entire package. This makes this recipe contain 11 grams of fat per packet (I did use a little olive oil, swap it for olive oil spray and bring it down more).

If 11 grams of fat is more than your post-op pouch can handle I’m looking at you sensitive bypass patients! You can do this same recipe with the pre-cooked chicken sausage links such as one of the ones shown below, purchased at Aldi.

Foil packets on the grill

I’m a big fan of foil packets on the grill for several reasons, easy cleanup being way up there!

I like to tear off four sheets of foil and spread them on my kitchen table. I toss the ingredients in a giant bowl and divide them over each piece of foil. Then fold up the sides to create a little “hammock” to allow venting in the top.

Here are a few other foil packet recipes:
